Valorization of Cotton Gin Trash through Thermal and Biological Conversion for Soil Application

چکیده
Cotton gin trash, the by-product of cotton ginning industry which is produced in large quantities every year, can be utilized as feedstock for deriving high quality organic materials such biochar, compost and co-composted derivates improvement soils’ key physical, chemical biological properties. This first report trash was both thermally biologically converted at same time into biochar (BC), (C) co-compost (Coc), their effects on soil properties plant performance were examined. In order to find optimum rate, products used amendments a greenhouse experiment 2.5 t ha−1, 5 ha−1and 10 ha−1 rates. All contributed improving provided agronomic benefits plants, however plants (radish var. Cherry belle) showed significantly (p < 0.05) better growth attributes almost 315% increase biomass yield observed when (10 ha−1) applied soil, thus suggesting its role compensating fertilizer application. Amendments (2.5 5.0 considerably increased parameters; however, differences between not so significant. As result, replenishing with Coc (5 regular basis promote improve qualities over time.

Boll weevil (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) survival through cotton gin trash fans.
There is concern that cotton gins may serve as loci for reintroduction of boll weevils, Anthonomus grandis grandis Boheman, to eradicated or suppressed zones when processing weevil-infested cotton from neighboring zones. Previous work has shown that virtually all weevils entering the gin in the seed cotton will be removed before they reach the gin stand. Those not killed by the seed cotton clea...
متن کاملSorption and desorption of endosulfan sulfate and diuron to composted cotton gin trash.
This paper investigates the potential use of composted cotton gin trash (CCGT) as a pesticide sorption medium in remediation of contaminated tailwater. CCGT was found to contain a large organic matter fraction (25.22%). Sorption of endosulfan sulfate and diuron, using the batch equilibrium method, was rapid but not limited for the range of applied concentrations, with diuron failing to reach eq...
متن کاملFourier Transform Spectroscopy of Cotton and Cotton Trash
The application of Fourier Transform (FT) spectroscopy instruments has broadened the knowledge and capabilities of textile researchers to study a host of projects including surface modifications of cotton fibers to impart flame retardant capabilities, monitoring aging effects on ancient cellulosic artifacts (Kavkler et al., 2011; Lojewski et al., 2010), determining the amount of dye fixation to...
متن کاملAnalysis of alkali ultrasonication pretreatment in bioethanol production from cotton gin trash using FT-IR spectroscopy and principal component analysis
Background: Cotton gin trash (CGT) is a lignocellulosic residue that can be used in the production of cellulosic ethanol. In a previous research, the sequential use of ultrasonication, liquid hot water, and ligninolytic enzymes was selected as pretreatment for the production of ethanol from CGT. However, an increment in the ethanol production is necessary. To accomplish that, this research eval...
متن کاملField trial of diatomaceous earth in cotton gin trash against the larger black flour beetle, Cynaeus angustus (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae).
The larger black flour beetle, Cynaeus angustus (LeConte) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), is an agricultural and home nuisance pest in North America. In the Southern High Plains of Texas, the larger black flour beetle is associated with cotton gin trash, by-products of cotton ginning that are field stored in large piles for economic reasons. Larger black flour beetle overwinter in gin trash piles ...
